Clinician Series: Surgery, ICU and Neurosciences Day 2

Keynote session: Understanding AI systems for clinical practice: when computation meets mind and brain

Clinical Artificial Intelligence (AI) has leaped to the forefront of current discussions by practitioners, scientists, vendors, policymakers, and even the general public. Yet we still have much to learn regarding both the design and impact of such technologies intended for clinicians. We have not focused adequately on how such systems must be crafted according to what we know about clinical users’ cognitive processes (memory, thinking, reasoning). Similarly, we need to understand better how such systems may influence those same cognitive processes prospectively, aiming to anticipate potential consequences, both positive and negative.
